Lanolips Review: More Than Just A Lip Balm

Lanolips is an Australian-made lip balm brand that I’ve been using since 2019. Back then, my eczema was flaring up, and I was honestly tired of going back and forth to the doctor for the same compounded ointment. I noticed that the prescription contained lanolin, so I started looking for lanolin-based products on my own.

That’s when I discovered Golden Dry Skin Miracle Salve. It worked incredibly well on the eczema flare-up around my eyelids, and it was the product that first made me trust the Lanolips brand.

In this blog post, I’ll be reviewing Lanolips 101 Ointment Multi-Balm, Golden Dry Skin Salve, and their tinted lip balms.

Packaging

Lanolips uses different packaging across its balm ranges. As you can see in the image below, the 101 Fruities Ointment comes in a soft, squeezable tube with bright, cheerful packaging that reflects its fruity theme. Each tube even features an illustration of the fruit, making it easy to identify the scent or flavor at a glance.
It also comes with a slanted applicator tip, allowing you to apply the balm directly onto your lips without using your fingers. This makes it a convenient option to keep in your bag for everyday use. Each tube contains 10 g of product.

The Jelly Balm range is slightly different. The tube is slimmer and transparent, allowing you to see the actual shade of the product inside. I have the Strawberry Jelly Balm, which appears as a clear pinkish strawberry-red color through the packaging. Like the Fruities range, it also contains 10 g of product.

For Golden Dry Skin Miracle Salve, Lanolips used to offer it in a tin packaging, which was the version I first purchased. Nowadays, it is only available in a 25 g gold-colored tube with a screw-on cap, similar to a toothpaste tube.

Similar to the Golden Dry Skin Miracle Salve, the Bronze Gold 101 Ointment Multi-Balm also comes in a toothpaste-style tube with a screw-on cap. The metallic bronze-gold packaging matches the product shade, and each tube contains 9 g of product.

Ingredients

Of course, all of these products use lanolin as their base ingredient, which has been a real savior for my dry, eczema-prone skin. Lanolin acts as a natural emollient, helping to reduce moisture loss while keeping the skin soft and hydrated.

And Lanolips keeps its ingredients minimal and clean, so I have less to worry about if I ever get an allergic reaction or something.

What I like is that Lanolips uses ingredients that actually match the flavor of each product. For example, 101 Ointment Multi-Balm Coconutter contains coconut oil, which gives it a natural coconut scent without that artificial chemical smell. The strawberry products, like Strawberry Jelly Balm and 101 Ointment Multi-Balm Strawberry, also contain strawberry extract, making them smell fresh and fruity.

Interestingly, the Golden Dry Skin Miracle Salve packaging also features a “Proud Partner” badge from Eczema Association Australasia (EAA), which caught my attention as someone with eczema-prone skin.

Texture, Scent, Swatches

The texture and scent of these four products are quite different from one another.

As you can see in the photo:
101 Fruities Ointment Multi-Balm has a thick texture, but it spreads easily. I think it’s suitable for both daytime and nighttime use, whether on its own as a lip balm or as a glossy topper. It’s also not overly sticky if you want to use it on dry cuticles. The scent depends on the flavor you choose, and in my opinion, none of them smell overpowering

Fruity Jelly Balm “Strawberry” feels just as thick as the 101 Fruities Ointment. The main difference is the tint. Since it leaves a noticeable rosy-red color on the lips, I personally wouldn’t use it before bed unless you’re okay with waking up to red stains on your pillowcase! My Strawberry Jelly Balm smells more like a strawberry candy, whereas the strawberry version of the 101 Fruities line has a much fresher strawberry scent.

Bronze Gold 101 Ointment Multi-Balm is a fragrance-free balm with a very thick texture. It has a subtle caramel-bronze tint and plenty of glittery particles. Personally, I prefer using it on my lips rather than my cheeks.

Golden Dry Skin Miracle Salve is an odorless, ultra-thick balm with the signature yellow color of lanolin. You can literally use it as an overnight lip mask. To be honest, this one is still my favorite, partly because it’s the product that helped calm the eczema around my eyes.

Final Verdict

Lanolips remains one of my favorite brands for dry, sensitive, eczema-prone skin. That said, not every product has earned a permanent spot in my routine. Some are definite repurchases, while others were nice to try but not something I’d necessarily buy again. Here’s a quick summary of the Lanolips products I currently own:

101 Fruities Ointment101 Bronze GoldFruity Jelly BalmGolden Dry Salve
Pros (+)– Smells like fresh fruit
– Minimal Ingredients
– 10/10 hydration
– Enough (caramel bronze) tint
– Fragrance Free
– Minimal Ingredients
– 6/10 hydration
– Smells fun like candy
– Sheer tint, good for everyday use
– 7/10 hydration, as it acts more like a gloss than a deeply hydrating balm.
– Best for all over part of your dry patch
– 10/10 hydration
– Fragrance Free
– Large amount, worth the price
Cons (-)Little pricey (USD 13.5)– Pricey (USD 17)
– Thick texture can look slightly patchy on the lips
– Too sticky as blush (considering this is lip and cheek)
– Quite glittery (may not suit everyone’s preference)
Little pricey (USD 13.5)Because the balm is so thick and lasts a long time, I feel like the 25 g tube could easily outlast its 12-month PAO. I honestly wish there were a smaller size available.

I hope you found this review helpful 🙂
