NIVEA Protect & Light Feel Sun Serum SPF 50+ PA+++ Review

Living in a tropical climate makes me enjoy exploring different sunscreen products. I know I’ll go through them much faster than my night creams, especially since sunscreen needs to be reapplied every 2 hours, and you may need it even if you’re staying indoors.

And sure enough, when sunlight comes through your workspace window, even with the air conditioner running, the sunscreen on your face can become less effective over time. That’s why reapplication is important.

Since I use sunscreen quite often, I tend to look for options that are affordable while still delivering good quality. Eventually, I decided to try NIVEA Protect & Light Feel Sun Serum SPF 50+ PA+++, and here are my thoughts.

Packaging

NIVEA Protect & Light Feel Sun Serum SPF 50+ PA+++ is packaged in a 90 ml soft squeeze tube with a clean, minimalist off-white color scheme. It features a screw cap, helping to keep the product safe and hygienic between uses.

For the applicator, the product uses a narrow nozzle opening with a small, tapered tip. This helps control the amount of sunscreen dispensed, so it’s less likely to come out in excess when applied to the face or fingers (two fingers are enough!).

Ingredients

This water-based sunscreen uses chemical UV filters, including Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane) for UVA protection and Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine for both UVA and UVB protection. Together with several other UV filters, it offers plenty of sun protection in a single 90 ml tube.

Surprisingly, I experienced zero negative reactions from it, even on my dry and sensitive skin.

Texture, Scent, and Swatch

NIVEA Protect & Light Feel Sun Serum applied on the cheek before blending (top) and after blending into the skin (bottom).

The texture of NIVEA Protect & Light Feel Sun Serum is very lightweight, almost watery. Considering this is a water-based cream and is called a Sun Serum, I think this is very consistent with the texture it delivers. It absorbs quickly into my dry skin and leaves a dewy finish at the end.

A plus point for me, as someone who prefers fragrance-free products, is that it has no noticeable fragrance at all. I mean, it has a sunscreen smell, but not a strong fragrance or anything whatsoever.

As you can see here, when the product is blended, it sinks perfectly into my dry skin and gives a little glow without any white cast at all. My only concern is that the more I blend it onto my skin, the more it starts to ball up into tiny flakes (see pic below).

Nevertheless, I love wearing this on its own for everyday use. Just add a bit of color to your lips and cheeks, and you’re good to go. Well, some days I might still need a touch of powder for a more matte finish.

Final Verdict

Overall, I enjoyed using this sunscreen.
I love how lightweight and watery it feels on my skin. It absorbs quickly, leaves a dewy finish, and most importantly, doesn’t irritate my dry and sensitive skin.

My only concern is that it tends to pill if I spend too much time rubbing it into my skin. Also, NIVEA seems to update their sunscreen lineup quite often, so this version has become harder to find lately.

One drawback I noticed: the sunscreen starts to pill and form tiny flakes when rubbed excessively.

Still, considering the price, the amount of product you get, and the fact that one bottle lasts me around 5–6 months with daily use, I think it’s worth the money (I bought it IDR 132K at Sociolla).

So, would you like to try some?
